The Department of Visual and Performing Arts at ̨ÍåSwag College provides students with the ability to gain additional expertise outside of their majors by offering the following minors,
A minor in art is perfect for any ̨ÍåSwag students interested in the visual arts, and will allow for a broad area of study within studio arts, including drawing, design, painting, or ceramics.
A minor in Art History is easily attainable by all ̨ÍåSwag students, especially those interested in learning about art from a wide range of cultures, time periods, and approaches.
The Minor in Entrepreneurship introduces students to the skills needed to effectively and creatively implement successful initiatives that will shape their community, lead to great personal satisfaction, and be a key economic driver.
E-commerce and Web Design
The future of e-commerce and web design is bright. That's why this minor focuses on the foundations of practical marketing and web design skills, as well as current and future business trends and practices.
Students learn visual communication concepts, marketing principles, and the language of technology to create and maintain highly effective e-commerce websites to capture buyers’ attention and obtain their business.
Consisting of five classes, including one in entrepreneurship, this minor combines offerings from both the visual and performing arts and business administration departments to offer the integrated mix of in-demand skills that employers seek in today's job market.
- IND/CA125 - Visual Literacy as stand-alone (fall) OR ART 103 Foundation Design 1 (spring)
- ENTR 201 - Entrepreneurship w/ social media component or lab [project may be the marketing of the minor in itself] (every semester)
- MKT 210 - E-Commerce
- MKT 312 - Promotional Strategies (prereq would be MKT 209 or 210)
- ART 320- Web design
A minor in Graphic Design is encouraged for students already pursuing a degree in art, especially Illustration. Students will complete work in typography, web-design, and motion graphics.
A minor in Illustration is encouraged for students already pursuing a degree in art, especially Graphic Design. Students complete a variety of approaches to visual narrative, in media ranging from computer-generated, collage, and drawing media.
A minor in painting is encouraged for students already pursuing a degree in art, especially Visual Arts Education. Students in this minor work in oil and acrylic media, and complete a focused body of work during their second year in the minor.
A minor in sculpture is encouraged for students already pursuing a degree in art, especially Visual Arts Education. Students work in a variety of three-dimensional media, and explore the tools and techniques of a sculpture workshop.

Graphic Design
VPA offers the following to students who do not major in art but who have an interest in Graphic Design. The sequence is designed to equip students with the skills to create, analyze and respond to both graphic design and digital imagery.

Graphic Design and Marketing
Students majoring in Business Administration, pursuing minors in Marketing or Entrepreneurship, and students in other majors may pursue a minor in Graphic Design and Marketing. As visual imagery continues to rival text as the medium of mass communication, VPA aims to equip students with the skills to analyze and respond to the work of creatives in the marketplace.
